  • Dennis M McDonough, DVM

    Owner of Charlotte Animal Hospital
    Dr. McDonough did his undergraduate work at the University of Kentucky in biology.  He then attended Auburn University for veterinary school, graduating in 1985.  He moved to Southwest Florida in 1986, loved the area and the Charlotte Animal Hospital practice, and has been here ever since.  When he's not working, Dr. McDonough enjoys golfing, fishing, and playing tennis.  He and his wife Laurie have two Papillons named Stella and Tenielle, and 1 cat named Maggie.

  • Kevin T Cronin, DVM

    Owner of Charlotte Animal Hospital
    Dr. Cronin is a Florida Native. He received his B.S. in Biochemistry at Florida State University, and his D.V.M. from the University of Florida. He is a supporter of the local Animal Welfare League. He has two sons named Mason and Maxwell. They have a miniature poodle, a boston terrier, and 2 feral cats. Dr. Cronin enjoys time with his family, fishing, boating and traveling in his free time.

  • Leah Kimbler, DVM

    Originally from West Virginia, Dr. Kimbler holds a Bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. She went on to earn her Doctorate's degree in Veterinary Medicine in Auburn, Alabama. She then moved to Southwest Florida where she has been practicing since 2009. Dr. Kimbler's professional interests are Dermatology and Internal Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, kayaking, and hiking with her husband Kris. She has two dogs, Stout and Harry, and a Quaker Parrot.

  • Rafael Cartelli, DVM

    Dr. Cartelli earned his Veterinary Degree at the Federal University of Parana' (Brazil) in 1997. He also got a Master of Veterinary Sciences Degree at the same institution in 2000 right before he moved to the United States. He lived in the Cape Cod (MA) area for several years and worked in different animal hospitals. He moved to Fort Myers, FL in 2007. He enjoys being a general clinician but his main professional interests are Endocrinology, Dentistry, Exotic Animals and Soft Tissue Surgery. Enjoys spending time with his wife Sandra and two sons Leo and Gabe at the beautiful FL beaches and parks, cooking Italian and listening to European Rock'n'Roll. He has 2 dogs and 3 cats.

  • Tonya Yeager - Practice Manager

    Tonya was born in Ft. Myers, FL and moved to Charlotte County in 1976. She began working at Charlotte Animal Hospital as a kennel tech in 1992, worked her way around the hospital, and is now the Practice manager. Her favorite part of the job is dealing with the personnel and clients. Because of her love for animals, she has two Boxer's named "Roxy" and "Lucy". Tonya and her husband, Ron, have two children, Kelsey and Kyle. In her spare time, Tonya enjoys boating, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and Rays baseball games. Tonya's future plans are to win the lottery so she can spend more time with her family.

  • Joan Coleman - Practice Administrator

    Joan was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Duquesne University with a BS in Education. She attended Edinboro University for Post Graduate Studies. She taught Business Education in Pittsburgh, Erie and Stoneboro, Pennsylvania. Joan owned Silver Shores Restaurant in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania for 30 years. She moved to Florida in November of 2006 and began working at Charlotte Animal Hospital. Joan has a daughter, a son,a son-in-law and a granddaughter who all live in Punta Gorda. She also has a cat named Smokey. In her spare time she enjoys golfing, working in the yard and spending time with family and friends. Joan enjoys every aspect of her work at Charlotte Animal Hospital.

  • Dawn Legg - Senior Surgical Technician

    Dawn was born in Germany. She has been working at Charlotte Animal Hospital since 1996. Dawn enjoys helping the doctors and taking care of the animals, but her favorite job is helping in surgery. Dawn's personal intersts include swimming, reading, and being outdoors. She has a dachshund mix named Otis and a Chihuahua named Maximillion.

    Meagan has been working at Charlotte Animal Hospital since January 2004. She enjoys assisting with surgeries and emergency medicine. In her spare time, Meagan enjoys fishing with her husband and spending time with her two sons. She has a Jack Russell named Jack and a Brittany named Hank.

  • Michelle F Cox - Veterinary/Surgical Technician, Veterinary Nutritional Advocate, Safety Manager, Veterinary Technology Student, Website Administrator

    Michelle was born in Detroit Michigan, and grew up in North Fort Myers Florida. She has been working at Charlotte Animal Hospital since early 2005.

    Her favorite part of the job is her involvement in the animal's healthcare and nutrition and assisting in the treatment and surgical procedures of animals, including dentistry. She is a current student of San Juan College acquiring her Associate of Science Degree in Veterinary Technology to become a Certified Veterinary Technologist. She is also a Veterinary Nutritional Counselor. In 2010 she was inducted as a presidential member of the National Society of Leadership and Success through her college for high GPA and academic excellence. In 2011, she received her Presidential Honors Certificate in Veterinary Technology from her college as well. Her future plans include continuing her education to further her career in the Veterinary Field and to obtain numerous Certifications in such. Outside of work she spends time enjoying life and nature with her fiance' JR, her family, and rescued Chihuahua Baby.

She enjoys interacting with the clients and their pets, assisting the Doctors during examinations, and helping with lab procedures and radiographs. She enjoys the continual learning experiences each day brings. Nicole has a cat called Yoda.

    Jon started working here at Charlotte Animal Hospital in November 2011. He enjoys assisting the doctors and interacting with the animals. He has a cat named Franklin in which he loves very much. In his spare time he enjoys spending with his beautiful fiance' Jennifer and his Pops. His favorite hobby is building and maintaining his Saltwater Fish Aquariums.

    Melissa was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. She moved to Cape Coral in 2005 and since then has relocated to Port Charlotte. She enjoys spending time with her two dogs Delta and Charlie.

    Melissa has worked at Charlotte Animal Hospital since December 2012. She enjoys assisting the doctors with pet examinations and different procedures. She loves getting to know the clients and their pets. Melissa continues to learn new things on a daily basis and has a desire to learn many aspects in the veterinary field. Melissa's ultimate goal is to go back to school and become a certified veterinary technician.

    Ileana is from Virginia and moved here to finish her bachelor's Degree in Biology. She has two Bearded Dragons, a Hedgehog, and two dogs. She loves spending time at home but also loves her moments that she gets to travel or just venture out. She has a passion for learning new things on a daily basis and that's why she loves the veterinary field. She is bilingual, so if anyone ever needs translation she would be happy to assist.

    Susan Malone brings over 5 years of experience to her position with Charlotte Animal Hospital. Before joining our staff in 2005, Susan worked as Senior Veterinarian Assistant and Office Manager for Bradford Animal Hospital in Nashville, TN. Susan is married to John (everyone's favorite FEDEX man), and has 2 handsome and successful sons, 4 beautiful granddaughters, and 1 very handsome grandson. All this and she's Mom to two fabulous Boxers, Junior & Little.
